About the event
We are approaching the season of giving! Gamma Iota Boulé Foundation, Incorporated is hosting its annual cultural food giveaway program, the 2023 Umoja Karamu: Dinner Giveaway and Black Unity Celebration. We welcome volunteers from the Greater Rochester community to support the community service endeavor.
We need a team of individuals to assist with the food and materials packing for the Umoja Karamu boxes. We will build 300 boxes and prepare the base materials for the boxes with the exception of whole chickens. This may involve light to heavy lifting. We will be in a warehouse space. Please dress accordingly for the temperature outside may impact the temperature inside of the warehouse.
About
Umoja Karamu (meaning, “unity feast”) was established in 1971 as a Black cultural celebration acknowledged during the fourth Sunday in November; often regarded as “the other Thanksgiving.” It is a ritual for the Black Family to create new meaning and solidarity through ceremony and symbolism.
